Last updated: 7 September 2026
These Terms of Use (“Terms”) govern your access to and use of UnPack, available at https://www.unpack.legal and the application at https://app.unpack.legal (the “Service”). Checkout uses https://checkout.unpack.legal.
By accessing or using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree to these Terms, you must not access or use the Service.
UnPack is operated by Unravel Consulting. The legal entity responsible for the Service is Antesto (Pty) Ltd, registration number 2014/042585/07 (“UnPack”, “we”, “us” or “our”).

1. What UnPack does
UnPack is a software tool designed to help users review, organise, render and export digital communications, including native WhatsApp chat exports, into more readable formats for legal, evidentiary, administrative or personal use.
Depending on the current version of the Service, features may include:
- importing native WhatsApp TXT or ZIP exports;
- displaying conversations and associated media;
- searching and filtering conversation content;
- configuring presentational settings;
- masking certain telephone-number information in rendered views;
- creating printable evidence-style documents;
- generating local SHA-256 file hashes;
- downloading an evidence package containing source material and related files; and
- re-importing a previously generated UnPack evidence package to continue working with it locally.
Features may change as the Service develops.
2. UnPack is a software tool, not a legal service
UnPack is not a law firm and does not provide legal advice, legal representation, forensic certification or expert evidence.
The Service does not determine or guarantee:
- whether material is legally admissible;
- whether a communication is authentic;
- who authored or sent a communication;
- whether a person owns or controlled a particular device or account;
- the truth or accuracy of a communication;
- the evidential weight a court, tribunal or other decision-maker may give to material; or
- whether a particular presentation or export satisfies the rules or requirements of any court, tribunal, regulator or other body.
You remain responsible for obtaining appropriate legal advice where required and for deciding how any output from UnPack should be used.
3. Your responsibility for source material
You may use the Service only with material that you are lawfully entitled to possess and process.
By importing or processing material through UnPack, you represent that you:
- are in lawful possession of the material, or are authorised by a person or organisation entitled to provide it to you;
- have any authority, consent or other lawful basis reasonably required for your intended use of the material; and
- will use the Service and its outputs in accordance with applicable law.
You do not need to own the copyright in every communication in a chat merely to use UnPack, but you are responsible for ensuring that your possession, processing, disclosure and use of the material are lawful.
4. Evidence integrity and presentation
UnPack is designed to preserve original source material separately from the rendered presentation where technically supported.
Certain features are presentational only. For example:
- message placement on the left or right does not establish legal authorship;
- telephone-number masking changes the presentation, not the underlying source;
- date-range filters may limit what is displayed without changing the preserved source;
- a rendered document is a presentation of source data, not a certification of that source; and
- SHA-256 hashes identify the contents of a file at a particular point in time but do not, by themselves, prove authenticity, authorship, provenance or admissibility.
You must review any rendered document or evidence package before relying on, filing, serving, publishing or sharing it.
5. Local processing and your own copies
A core design principle of UnPack is that evidence content is processed locally in your browser rather than uploaded to UnPack.
You are responsible for keeping your own original source files and appropriate backups. Do not treat UnPack as a storage or backup service.
Closing a browser tab, clearing browser data, changing device, browser failure or other technical events may cause unsaved working state to be lost. Where available, use the evidence-package export feature if you want a locally saved package that can later be re-imported.
See our App Privacy Policy and Security & Data Handling page for more information.
6. Acceptable use
You must not use the Service:
- for any unlawful purpose;
- to access, process or disclose communications that you are not lawfully entitled to possess or use;
- to facilitate unlawful surveillance, harassment, fraud, impersonation or other unlawful conduct;
- to knowingly falsify, fabricate or materially alter evidence and then misrepresent it as an authentic or unaltered record;
- to misrepresent a rendered UnPack output as a certification, forensic verification or finding made by UnPack;
- to introduce malicious code, interfere with the Service, circumvent security controls or deliberately disrupt its operation; or
- in a manner that infringes the rights of another person or breaches applicable law.
7. Your content and intellectual property
As between you and UnPack, you retain whatever rights you lawfully hold in your source material.
UnPack does not claim ownership of the chat exports, media or evidence material that you process locally using the Service.
The UnPack software, interface, branding, documentation and other materials supplied by us remain owned by or licensed to Antesto (Pty) Ltd and are protected by applicable intellectual-property laws.
Subject to these Terms, we grant you a limited, non-exclusive, revocable right to use the Service for lawful personal, professional or business purposes.
8. Availability and changes
We may update, improve, remove or change features from time to time.
We may suspend or discontinue all or part of the Service where reasonably necessary, including for maintenance, security, legal or operational reasons.
We do not guarantee uninterrupted or error-free availability.
9. Payment terms and immediate access
Importing, reviewing and configuring evidence are free. Print / Save as PDF and Save Evidence Package require export access for the imported chat. One payment unlocks both export formats. The applicable price and currency are shown before checkout, and tax, if applicable, is confirmed at checkout.
The integration currently operates in Lemon Squeezy test mode. No real payment is collected in test mode. The purchase and refund terms below apply to paid transactions when enabled.
Lemon Squeezy acts as Merchant of Record for paid purchases. By proceeding with checkout, you request immediate access to the paid export functionality. Access begins once payment has been confirmed and export access has been successfully unlocked.
Purchases are generally non-refundable once export access has been successfully unlocked because access is immediate and exported evidence packages can be retained, shared and re-imported for reuse, including future printing and exporting.
Exceptions may apply for:
- duplicate charges;
- a technical failure preventing the purchased export functionality;
- circumstances where a refund is required by law; or
- a refund processed by Lemon Squeezy as Merchant of Record.
Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits rights or remedies that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited.
Export access applies to this chat. Changes to document labels or presentation settings do not require another purchase. An evidence package contains the source, saved settings and a signed payment receipt; re-importing it can restore access following payment verification. The receipt confirms payment only and does not authenticate the evidence. Refunded or otherwise invalid payments do not restore export access. A new native TXT or ZIP import requires a new purchase.
UnPack starts a recovery-package download after payment confirmation. Keep that ZIP and save an updated package after changes; browser download restrictions may require you to select Save Evidence Package manually. Unsaved changes remain in browser memory.
Checkout opens in a separate tab. A checkout return page alone does not confirm payment; UnPack checks payment status separately. If confirmation is delayed, use Check payment rather than purchasing again. For payment problems, contact [email protected] without sending evidence files or case information.
We do not charge retroactively for previous use of free functionality.
10. Third-party services and brands
The Service may depend on ordinary third-party infrastructure required to deliver the application, such as hosting, domain or security services.
Payment processing is provided by Lemon Squeezy as Merchant of Record under its own terms and privacy practices.
UnPack is an independent product and is not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by WhatsApp LLC, Meta Platforms, Inc. or their affiliates. WhatsApp and related marks belong to their respective owners.
11. Disclaimers
The Service is provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis to the fullest extent permitted by applicable law.
While we aim to produce accurate and useful renderings, software can contain errors and digital exports can vary by device, operating system, WhatsApp version, locale, export format and source condition.
You are responsible for verifying:
- that the imported source is the intended source;
- that messages, dates, times, participants and media have been interpreted correctly;
- that any masking, filters or presentation choices are appropriate;
- that exported files open correctly; and
- that the final output is suitable for your intended legal or other use.
Nothing in these Terms excludes any warranty, right or remedy that cannot lawfully be excluded.
12. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, Antesto (Pty) Ltd and Unravel Consulting will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential loss arising solely from use of, inability to use, or reliance on the Service, including loss caused by:
- failure to preserve your own source files or backups;
- reliance on an incorrect or incomplete rendering that could reasonably have been identified through review;
- a court, tribunal or other person refusing to accept or give weight to an output;
- loss of locally stored or unsaved working state; or
- use of the Service contrary to these Terms.
This clause does not exclude or limit liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited, including any rights you may have under applicable consumer-protection legislation.
13. Privacy
Our handling of personal information is described separately in our Website Privacy Policy for the public website and App Privacy Policy for the evidence workspace.
Because evidence content is intended to remain in your browser, please do not send confidential evidence to our support email unless it is genuinely necessary and you are comfortable doing so.
14. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of South Africa.
Subject to any mandatory rights or procedures that apply under South African law, disputes relating to the Service or these Terms will be subject to the jurisdiction of the competent courts of South Africa.
15. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms as the Service develops, including when payment functionality or new features are introduced.
The current version will be published with its “Last updated” date. Material changes will apply prospectively from the date the updated Terms take effect.
Your continued use of the Service after updated Terms take effect constitutes acceptance of those updated Terms. If you do not agree to an updated version, you must stop using the Service.
